The Labordes

Dave Laborde has been the pastor of Community Bible Church since 1985. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Grace Theological Seminary. His passion is to serve the Lord and others through pastoral ministry and expository teaching and preaching of the Bible.

Beth is also very much involved with the ministry of CBC. She leads the Kid's Klubhouse ministry (for children in kindergarten to 6th grade) and serves as one of the church's pianists. The Labordes have three children, Benjamin, Anne and James.

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, written by God through men. We believe that Jesus Christ is the very Son of God and that it is only through faith in His death, burial and resurrection that a person is saved, that is, forgiven of their sin and receives the free gift of eternal life.

Community Bible Church was officially organized on November 13, 1977 when a handful of believers committed to the Bible Church movement desired to see a Bible church in Paris. They began meeting regularly and soon decided to work toward formally becoming a church body. They soon developed a doctrinal statement and church constitution, and called Michael Slaven to be their first pastor. In 1978, the church purchased an office building in downtown Paris, which was our location until 1990. Later that same year, the church became a member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America (IFCA) for reasons of accountability and fellowship with like-minded congregations. In 1979, pastor Slaven decided to pursue more Bible training and so a second pastor was called, the Rev. Steve Lucas. He served our church until 1982, when was called to another ministry. During Pastor Lucas’ ministry, the church developed a missions program and began supporting three missionaries. In 1983, Mike Slaven returned to pastor the church for two more years. Since then, brother Slaven, has continued serving as a layman in the church. David Laborde became our pastor in 1985, when the church was averaging around 35 in attendance. At that time, Community Bible Church became a mission church with the Indiana Bible Church Mission. After we reached around 65 people in 1989, the church was able to become a self-supporting work.

Our History

In February of 1990, the church began the process of moving from the downtown area to a newly purchased property on the east side of town. The first services in the newly-built facility were held on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1991 with 112 in attendance. A second building phase began in the fall of 1992, with the first services held in our new auditorium on February 28, 1993. Over the next several years, we were able to expand the ministry in several areas, including the addition of a children’s program called “Kid’s Klubhouse,” a teen group, and the music program. We have also been able to expand the missions program. In 2005, we purchased an adjacent property and were able to once again expand our facilities by adding a 40’ x 50’ youth room. The Lord has continued to bless each area of ministry. Our Sunday worship service attendance average is up to around 135. Our children and youth ministries are quite active. We have a Ladies Bible Fellowship ministry. Our missions program is full and we have a weekly Bible institute. We look forward with great anticipation to see what the Lord has in store for us as we continue to serve him in the Paris community.
